2009 and 2010 are respectively the 150th anniversaries of the writing and the publishing of Whitman's Calamus poems, the inspiration for our tour. He wrote them in dangerous times, with violence ever-nearer, and they are still visionary, still inspiring hope in the possibility of cherishing people and love-- and love-making-- over material possessions and power.
